The Academy Award-winning actor, director, and humanitarian has now opened up about the project for the November issue of Vogue and shared its first looks, including the strapless bodysuit Jolie wears on the digital cover (shot by Annie Leibovitz), which she is rumored to have had specially spray-painted for the shoot.

The striking photo may remind viewers of Alexander McQueen’s iconic runway spray-paint moment (or, more recently, Coperni’s spray on dress with Bella Hadid), but it also pays homage to the location of Atelier Jolie, which used to be the late painter Jean-Michel Basquiat’s house and studio in New York City’s Bowery.

According to Vogue, Jolie is converting the location into a hub for interaction and that will include tailoring and upcycling services as well as a light filled gallery space for artisans, while the café within the studio will collaborate with refugee organizations. With partnerships from London-based milliner Justin Smith, American artist Duke Riley, and South African lacemaker Pierre Fouché, Atelier Jolie will formally debut in November.

According to Jolie, I don’t want to be a well-known fashion designer. I want to construct a home so that others can do that.

A period of change
Jolie’s red carpet looks have always been effortless, from low-slung leather pants to va-va-voom gowns with plunging necklines and thigh high slits. However, she is not a likely candidate for a celebrity with big brand, as A-Listers have launched the nearly meaningless fashion, beauty, or wellness line to varying degrees of success. Two of her kids, Zahara and Pax, who have “heavily involved” with the launch, are joining her in the endeavor.

The excitement for the five-day schedule’s big-name fashion shows, including those from Burberry, J.W. Anderson, Erdem, and Simone Rocha, was evenly divide by the noticeable absence of buzzy brands like Dilara Findikoglu, Halpern, Nensi Dojaka, and S.S. Daley — designers who postponed their shows just weeks before the event.

Secondly, The start of the holiday season was mark by what may turn into a new tradition: Anna Wintour’s British equivalent of the Met Gala, which benefited London’s performing arts venues. The agenda received a star-studded boost from Vogue World’s dazzling maroon carpet, which welcomed guests like Kate Winslet, Princess Eugenie, Sienna Miller, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Princess Isabella (who made her pregnancy bump debut in Schiaparelli couture).

Over the course of the week, more well-known figures flooded the London fashion scene. The first-ever “Vogue World” event took place last night at the Theatre Royal on London’s Drury Lane and lived up to its billing as Britain’s equivalent of the Met Gala.

The event that marked the beginning of London Fashion Week attracted a large number of celebrities. It was arrange by British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

The guest list was as impressive as one might anticipate from an Anna Wintour design. While actress Sienna Miller ruled the red carpet in a white puffball Schiaparelli gown that showed off her expanding baby bump (Miller is expecting her second child), Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (dressed in Richard Quinn and Fendi, respectively) also attended.

A variety of entertainers, models, and fashion designers, including Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, and Victoria Beckham, were present, as well as film director Baz Luhrmann, actors Kate Winslet, Jared Leto, Jodie Turner Smith, and Maisie Williams.

Around 1,500 people gathered inside the 200-year-old theatre to watch an hour-long ode to theater opening nights that was artistically directed by BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning director Stephen Daldry.

Before Kate Moss took the stage to introduce the show, John Galliano dress her in special Maison Margiela clothing in a video that shown onto a large screen.

Chinese mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu performed opera, FKA Twigs collaborated with the Rambert Ballet, rapper Stormzy and actor Sophie Okonedo performed a duet that was based on a Shakespearean play, and Damien Lewis, Sienna Miller, Cush Jumbo, James Corden, Damian Lewis, and James McAvoy collaborated on a comedy sketch.

The event’s grand finale featured a live performance of “Sweet Dreams” by Annie Lennox, who was dresse in custom Richard Quinn. The original supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, who are currently British Vogue’s cover stars, also made an appearance at the giant runway show.
